Due to the current economic state, we are putting nursery operations on hiatus. We opologize for any inconvenience. If you are on Maryland’s eastern shore, you may find native plants at Adkins Arboretum. If you are in the Baltimore metro area, you may find native plants at Herring Run Watershed Association.
There are many plant events in the spring – Cylburn Arboretum in Baltimore has Market Day in early May. Also in May – the Baltimore Herb Festival.
We thank you for your past support of Chesapeake Conservation Nurseries. As the economy improves, we may resume nursery operations. Please check back from time to time to view our status.
Thank you again for your support.
Sincerely,
Pamela Harris, President
About
Why Native Plants?
Well, the best answer to this question is – they belong here. When you use native plants in home landscaping, you are providing all of the following extended benefits to the environment:

Sweetbay Magnolia
These plants are naturally disease and pest resistant. As a result, you will use fewer (if any) pesticides and chemicals for their care.
Native plants are drought tolerant and require less watering than ornamental plants.
Trees and shrubs provide oxygen, reduce carbon dioxide, and filter toxins out of our air and water.
Native plants provide food, shelter, and breeding areas for native birds, small mammals, and beneficial insects.

Eastern Redbud
There are many beautiful native plants to choose from. In the tree and shrub variety, there are several flowering trees and shrubs that provide fragrance, flowers, and beautiful fall foliage as well.
Here are a few examples – Sweetbay Magnolia, Eastern Redbud, and Sassafras.
